Kaohsiung is a southern harbor city and the biggest center of industry in Taiwan. It also encompasses a number of historic sites which, whether you are interested in traditional native structures or Western buildings from the colonial era.
The city is also a vital transportation center, shipping and commerce were developed here from early age; quite a few sites are left till now: city walls from the Qing dynastic period, the old British Consulate, the Qihou Fortress and Lighthouse, and other relics rich in historical significance. Besides, you can take a tourist boat around the inside of Kaohsiung Harbor, sailing to the Chichin Island, enjoying sights of the impressive Kaohsiung skyline.
